Remaining Productive While Working From Home

January came and passed by so fast. Soon we were getting used to the year 2020: full of ambition, high in spirits and determined to make this one the year! The year to make and keep most if not all of my resolutions…or so i thought. Then came a new terminology that would soon be part of my day to day vocabulary, Coronavirus! It’s getting real.

Who ever thought that the world would wake up to a global pandemic in 2020 and our lives would change drastically.

Working from home is not a new thing to me, in fact I was one of those employees who always seemed to champion for this long before employers thought it would work. To many bosses, productivity and output are as a result of spending 9-5 glued to your computer in an office set up.

Well, working from home comes with its share of distractions: noisy neighbors, children, unending desire to visit the fridge for one last bite and the treacherous bed that just beckons one to slide into the sheets…

So here are some tips that I find helpful in being productive:

  1. Wake up at the same time – maintaining a constant schedule helps my mind be attuned to the fact that nothing has changed apart from the venue. I do my best to wake up at 6 am on a regular work day. I say a prayer, meditate on the day ahead and make a rough mental plan of my to do list for the day.
  2. Take a warm bath and get dressed- hot showers have a way of relaxing both the mind and body. it helps my body to awaken and get in the mood for a busy day. (If you’re one of those peeps who like to flex, well, good for you. Skip the shower and head over to your workout space or home gym and get physical)
  3. Grab some breakfast and energize.
  4. Designate a specific work space in your house. Should be well-lit, quiet and well arranged. Having a workstation with a sizable home-office desk, comfortable chair, customized with my favorite flowers, pen holder, dustbin, and photos is a great way to boost my psych for the day.

  5. Start with a to do list- a well arranged to-do list is a sure guide in planning and completing tasks successfully. Prioritize the tasks, starting with the most urgent jobs.
  6. Take a break! It’s always stimulating to take regular breaks to re-energize, get inspired and connect with colleagues, friends or family.

I would love to hear about your work from home hacks as well. #StayAtHome #StaySafe

This too shall pass!
